The 80 – 20 Rule

Many people are familiar with the 80-20 principle when it comes to business. This well-known philosophy—also known as the Pareto principle—dictates that 80 percent of your business likely comes from 20 percent of your customers. It has served countless business people throughout the years, as they learned to focus in on what is the most profitable way to spend their time.

However, you may be asking me: “Mitzi, what in the world is all this 80-20 talk doing in the LIFESTYLE section of your blog?”

Well, let me bring you up to speed. For starters my clients and students in the design world hear me speaking about my 80-20 guide rule all the time as it relates to assessing our interior spaces. Generally speaking, we spend 80 percent of our time in 20 percent of our spaces. Check it out and see for yourselves. Rarely is this principle far off from the way we use our homes.

And how about the 80-20 rule as it applies to healthy eating?

Very simply with this philosophy:

Life is short and it’s looking a lot shorter all the time. I’m not an “eat, drink, and be merry” kind of girl without any thought of the consequences of my lifestyle choices.
