While in Houston sitting for our three angels, Paige, Brooke, and Max, and after seeing Hadley Court’s beautiful post on Flower Easter Crosses, I thought, “We can do this, too!” But, with no time to do what the “experts” had done, here’s our easy, but still beautiful, Flower Easter Cross.

In lieu of a florist base, we used tiny plastic cups filled with small stones to hold them in place in a glass dish. A lovely tray could also be used.

Spring flowers were in full bloom in Houston, so we picked roses from their yard, which was such fun. Selecting which flowers to use was also such a fun part of our memory that day, even with little four-year-old Max giving us his opinions! Going out to buy flowers together would also have been a shared, happy experience… How can we not love flowers, no matter where they come from?

Then, Paige and Brooke filled the cups with water, cut the stems and placed the roses in the cups (with a little help from their Mimi). We then put our creation in the refrigerator to save for Easter brunch.

The look on their faces as we worked, and the “oohs” and “ahhs” as it came together were priceless. But what was most priceless to me is realizing that we now have another family tradition to carry out each Easter. Whether we are together or not, I believe my Houston angels will remember this special creation they made to celebrate one of the holiest days of the year.

I hope that by showing a simple, fast and inexpensive way to make such a beautiful centerpiece, more family and friends will be inspired to make new memories and traditions with each other.
