IS YOUR “GOOD” SABATOGING YOUR “GREAT”?

I am 61 with my first Lifesizing® website portrait 2007. Can you believe it has been that long ago?

Are you aware my dear readers what your life COULD look like?

Make sure your GOOD never delays your GREAT.

Yes, Good can certainly be the enemy of Great in your personal or professional life. Relating to the best seller by Jim Collins, “Good to Great, Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don’t”, is perhaps one of the most important self- introspective question you can ask yourself for your future well being in all the areas of your life.

Gail Derrebery and I working Lifesizing® way back in 2007

Allow me to explain why this is concept relates to my goals for you and my reasonings for doing what I have done and will continue to do as long as I possibly can. Way back in the early 2000’s, observing what was happening in the homes and in the lifestyles of my “my people” or those over 50 (the O50s), I was greatly concerned. This passionate concern led me to create and even trademark the term, Lifesizing® as a vehicle to motivate and educate my beloved O50s. You all realize that I could have selfishly lived my own Lifesizing® life in my own home and in my own wellness routines and the heck with everyone else!

My second website promoting Wisdom.

But this is not who I am not to share what has worked for me as an O50 for a very long time. What I am meaning is that now being in my early 70’s, I am experiencing the fruits of my Lifesizing® efforts. To withhold these life changing keys would be selfish or even arrogant of me knowing first -hand how the empowering impact of daily choices do indeed affect the quality of life.

This very same principle is the major difference between merely downsizing versus Lifesizing®.

ONLY BEING GOOD CAN SABATOGE BEING GREAT

ONLY DOWNSIZING CAN SABATOGE LIVING A LIFESIZING® LIFE

How so? You all know that life is a constant array of choices. Therefore, the question is are you choosing to live by chance or live your life by choice?

This is my very first website emphasizing CHOICE OVER CHANCE LIVING

It truly comes down to you choosing a lifestyle that will empower you as you make your day to day choices. The GOOD, no, the GREAT exciting news is that it doesn’t matter where you are right now, positive changes done today will have a positive outcome on your future. It is never, ever too late to make a difference for your future!

Why not give yourself the tools to find your way to being Great instead of wandering lost on the back roads or taking unnecessary detours? There is a highway to get you to your Lifesizing® destination. How?

Set up your own personal GPS by reading my new series,

“O50’s, Yes You Can!”

This series will navigatie your direct route to Lifesizing® through Design SMARTS. For a faster route, order my book to avoid the possible construction delays that could take you so much longer to reacing your destination of experiencing a life of greatness.

Are you thinking “oh sure Mitzi, me living a life of greatness?”

Yes, I am talking to you! Imagine going from starting each of your days unchartered versus having a road map of a planned route to where you are driving to each day? Just this one daily choice alone will move you into your life of merely living in GOOD to living in GREAT. You see, it is the little day by day choices or even hour by hour choices that add up to making you where you will be next year or in five years and beyond.

I will be beginning  with the first acronym, Space. Do not think for a minute that all that will be covered are walk in showers or grab bars, oh no, not even close! Your home holds your potential for being your restorative weapon against the stresses of today. Therefore, your living spaces will be one of our first areas to dig into with some really fun and creative ideas for you to consider. Here is an example of what I have for you.

Have an empty corner? Make it your special nest for your down times. I did this in my home with very little effort.

As you always know, I will be rooting for you. And, please feel free to give your own challenges and or solutions in the comment section. I read everyone because I am learning right along with you on our O50 journey!

Good morning, Mitzi. I’ve read your book and know that we’ve done quite a bit that’s right-minded as we downsized to a home on the lake for retirement. What I lack is self discipline and it has cost me dearly all my life. I’m overweight and cannot seem to dig deep down inside to find the willpower I need. I start out each day very well but lose it as the afternoon wears on. There’s just too much pleasure in having tea or coffee with something sweet on the side. With retirement there’s time to cook, vacations and many occasions that all involve food. I look at you and wonder how you manage to be so fit and healthy. While life is good, I can identify with your concept that it’s not great because my weight colors every aspect of my life, has adversely affected my health and is my number one failure.

Oh Margo, I so hear you on your challenges but please do not give up or think that you are alone. Many women are in your exact place having the very best intentions and yet are still struggling with their weight and their lifestyle choices.

Since you read my book (thank you for that) could you go back to the chapters on Routine? I believe that it would help you to accept your situation, love yourself right where you are, and keep on keeping on trying by baby steps every day. Pat yourself on the back for undersrtanding your status and admitting that you need to conquer the willpower monster which I totally believe that you can with one day at a time.

Is there anyone near that you can ask to hold you accountable? Sounds scary I know but alone we are so vulnerable versus having someone along side of us to not criticize but to encourage. Please keep me posted Margo and please keep track of what I will be offering in my soon to start Facebook group . I will be rooting for you as always! xoxo Mitzi

Life really is a series of choices – you are so right that intentionality can result in an outcome that is better than merely good enough. Thank you for sharing and always being an inspiration!

    • Mitzi

Thank you Janet for commenting and for your encouraging message to me. You will never be a complacent whatever kind of woman as you are in the game so to speak. You are in it to win it! xoxo Mitzi

  3. Sherri

Very thought provoking and enjoyable, I will check out your book as well. Yes, at 58 I have learned life is a series of choices and just accepting something is not good enough. I also like to set an example for my 17 and 19 year old kids..

    • Mitzi

Thank you Sherri for your lovely comment. You are a wise women in your understanding regarding how our life choices do indeed direct our lives. We get to choose for the most part at least in our attitudes.
I have no doubt that you are an outstanding example for your teenagers! xoxo Mitzi

Oh wow, I will have to research this! I do believe what you are saying-it’s a leap from good to great. It takes that extra effort. Thanks for a great read!

    • Mitzi

You are spot on Theresa! Being sastisfied with one’s routine leads often to stagnation which is the death of growth or change. You will not be that type of person, you get it and I wish you all the best as you do indeed step out with extra efforts. xo mitzi

Not just “good” but “good enough” is sometimes a struggle to overcome!

I followed you on Pinterest too in hopes of gaining more insight!

  6. Mitzi

Hello Shelley and I so appreciate your cmmenting and following! You are absolutely correct and this is why I hope to encourage you and others to not settle for being comfortable only but to fight complacency by stepping out to try new ideas or new whatevers. When you do this, your world becomes much more exciting even if it is merely meeting new friend through branching out.

Love, love, love your “nesting corner”!! I’ve saved it to my inspo Evernote folder for our next house (including a credit to you, of course!). I look forward to your upcoming posts and following along in my copy of Design Smarts, too!

We are current working out way through the spaces in our home and setting them up for the way we want live now. We re-did our family room, dining room and the floors in our bedroom. Next up is another guest room, an office for me and one for the hubby!

    • mitzi beach

Good for you Kim! Your efforts will pay off for you in ways you may not even realize yet as you continue to love and enjoy all these newly done rooms just for you and your lifestage. I love your comment, thank you! xoxo Mitzi

  9. Diana S Walker

I’m so inspired by you! What a gift you have for saying what is true in acknowledging your home and what effort it requires to develop a well lived life through how we CHOOSE to live in our home. I’moved my office to home in June but it’s taken me some serious deep diving to how to make this smaller space workable. The stop /start began when I had travel to see friends and grandkids and having them travel here, health issues, clients to take care of and soul searching. Well I’ve started putting these changes into practice (thanks to you) so I am now feeling empowered again. It took dealing with loss, grief, business, and so many other people to remind me what can be gained. So thank you again. I truly think you should go on a book tour next year training young and old designers to be diligent about this care and feeding of of their homes and their clients. It’s not just a career it is a way of life that produces more joy. ❤️??

Oh Diana, before I comment on some of your well thought out points, I must respond to moving your office into a smaller home space. I am still working on mine if this makes you feel any better! Light bulb moment for me that may help you is that our interior design world is so vast in what it covers which in turn is reflected in our design libraries. I had to come to grips for me, not you, that my design business is never going to be the same in this new stage of life. It was a grieving most assuredly. Consulting with my knowledge and experience is what I am hoping will happen.
And like you also, I have had many start and stops since we relocated in July 2019 but this is actually a healthy interruption. A break of any kind is a good break for us creatives.
Thank you Diana for understanding the depth of what it takes to live a well lived life. You my friend are well on your way! xoxo Mitzi
PS . I love your thoughts regarding a book tour which I so love!!
